Spraying for frogs is a cumulative process. You may still hear coqui singing after a spray. This is true for the following reasons:
- A solution of citric acid is used to spray the frogs and their eggs.
- Even though it it toxic to coqui, it must contact the frog and/or eggs directly in order to be effective.
- Due to nature of the coqui habitat (they live primarily under leaf and plant detritus and in rock walls) it becomes a challenge to hit each and every coqui.
Therefore, it is necessary to do successive spraying. Their singing will diminish with each successive spraying. Amount of rainfall and weather temperature are also key factors determining coqui activity.
